Forklift Training for Food and Drink Manufacturing

GH Training provides practical, AITT-accredited forklift and material handling equipment training for food producers, drink manufacturers, processing sites and cold-storage operations across the North West, North Wales and West Yorkshire.

Training is delivered at your premises so operators can learn within the hygiene, access and production controls used at your site.

Training Around Hygiene-Controlled Operations

Food and drink workplaces often separate raw materials, production areas, packaging operations, finished goods and dispatch. Forklift movements must fit safely around these controls without creating contamination risks or disrupting production.

On-site training can reflect:

  • Hygiene zones and restricted-access areas
  • Rules for equipment entering production spaces
  • Segregated pedestrian and vehicle routes
  • Cleaning schedules and temporary closures
  • Packaging materials, ingredients and finished products
  • Site-specific protective clothing and access procedures

Cold Stores, Wet Floors and Changing Conditions

Cold-storage and processing environments can affect visibility, traction, operator comfort and equipment performance. Condensation, wet floors, temperature changes and insulated doors may introduce hazards that are not present in a standard warehouse.

Operators should understand how ground conditions, braking distances, visibility and load stability can change. Training should be supported by suitable floor maintenance, lighting, housekeeping and traffic controls.

MHE Courses for Food and Drink Sites

The appropriate course depends on the truck, workplace and tasks being completed:

Production Schedules and Shift Working

Training must be planned carefully where production runs continuously or where equipment is shared across several shifts. We can discuss learner availability, training areas and operational restrictions before agreeing the course schedule.

Shift handovers should communicate defects, damaged pallets, spillages, blocked routes and temporary changes. Operators must complete pre-use inspections and report concerns before using the equipment.

Handling Pallets, Containers and Packaging Loads

Food and drink products may be carried in sacks, drums, intermediate bulk containers, crates, cartons or shrink-wrapped pallets. Damaged packaging, unstable stacking or contamination can make a load unsuitable for movement.

Operators should check load condition, weight distribution, pallet quality and visibility before travelling. Unsafe loads should be isolated and reported under the site’s procedures.

Arrange Training for Your Food or Drink Site

We will review your equipment, operator experience, hygiene requirements, shift arrangements and available training area before recommending the correct course.
